Professional School GPA Calculators
Law schools, medical schools, and health programs do not use your university GPA. Each one recalculates your academic record from scratch using its own rules. Find the right calculator for your path below.
Why Professional Schools Don't Use Your University GPA
Imagine comparing two applicants: one from a university with generous grade replacement, where a failed Organic Chemistry is erased when retaken — and another from a school where all attempts are permanently recorded. Under the university GPA system, the first applicant looks better, even if the underlying academic performance was identical.
Professional school application services solve this by returning to the primary source: every original transcript. They apply their own grade-to-point conversion, their own rules for repeats and withdrawals, and their own definition of what counts as undergraduate coursework. Every applicant is evaluated on the same terms, regardless of where they went to school.
Standardized comparison
One scale applied to all applicants from all institutions eliminates grading-curve advantages.
Repeat-course honesty
Counting all attempts reflects the full academic trajectory rather than a curated transcript.
ABA / AAMC reporting
Schools are required to report admitted-class GPA data. The recalculated GPA is what goes into those published medians.
Choose Your Professional School Calculator
Select the service that matches your target programs. If you are applying to multiple professional fields, each service produces a separate recalculated GPA.
LSAC GPA Calculator
For law school applicants applying to ABA-approved schools via CAS. Applies A+ = 4.33, counts all repeat attempts, and handles WF withdrawals as F.
AMCAS GPA Calculator
For MD medical school applicants. Separates Science GPA (BCPM: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math) from Non-Science GPA. A+ = 4.0. All repeat attempts counted.
AACOMAS GPA Calculator
For DO osteopathic school applicants. Separates Science GPA from Non-Science GPA. Note: Mathematics is Non-Science in AACOMAS (unlike AMCAS). Post-2017 grade averaging applies.
CASPA GPA Calculator
For PA school applicants. Calculates BCP Science GPA, Other Science GPA, and Overall GPA. Math is Non-Science in CASPA. All repeat attempts counted — no grade replacement.
BusinessCAS GPA Calculator
For MBA & graduate business applicants. Handles all-attempts repeat policy, WF grades, quarter-to-semester conversion, and separate Undergrad / Grad / Post-Bac breakdowns on the 4.0 scale.
EngineeringCAS GPA Calculator
For M.S., M.Eng. & Ph.D. applicants. No-grade-replacement policy, WF handling, quarter-to-semester conversion (×0.667), and three-level GPA breakdown on the 4.0 scale.
AADSAS GPA Calculator
For dental school applicants. Calculates BCP GPA (Biology/Chemistry/Physics), Science GPA, Non-Science GPA, and Overall GPA. All-attempts policy, WF grades, quarter conversion.
VMCAS GPA Calculator
For veterinary school applicants. Computes Science GPA, Math GPA, Last 45 Credit Hour GPA, and Overall GPA with VMCAS all-attempt averaging and quarter conversion.
How Each Service Differs: Side-by-Side
The same transcript can produce four different GPAs across four different services. Here is how the key rules compare.
| Rule | LSAC (Law) | AMCAS (MD) | AACOMAS (DO) | CASPA (PA) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A+ grade value | 4.33 | 4.0 (no A+ premium) | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| Scale maximum | 4.33 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| Repeated courses | Both attempts counted | Both attempts counted | Both attempts counted | Both attempts counted (+ separate most-recent GPA) |
| GPA sub-types | Single GPA | Science (BCPM) + Non-Science + Total | Science + Non-Science + Total | Total + most-recent repeat GPA |
| Punitive WF withdrawal | Counted as F (0.0) | Counted as F (0.0) | Counted as F (0.0) | Counted as F (0.0) |
| Non-punitive W withdrawal | Excluded | Excluded | Excluded | Excluded |
| Graduate coursework | Excluded | Included (reported separately) | Excluded from undergrad GPA | Excluded from undergrad GPA |
| Pass/Fail courses | Excluded | Excluded | Excluded | Excluded |
Rules are based on publicly available service guidelines. Verify with each service's current applicant handbook, as policies may change between application cycles.
