GPA Scale Converter
Convert your GPA or CGPA between the 4.0, 5.0, and 10.0 grading scales — or any custom scale — instantly. Supports bidirectional conversion and shows the formula behind every result.
Different countries and universities use different grading scales, which makes direct comparisons misleading without conversion. A 3.5 on a US 4.0 scale and a 3.5 on a Nigerian 5.0 scale represent different levels of academic performance. Once converted using the standard proportional formula, they become directly comparable.
The proportional conversion method — dividing your GPA by your scale maximum and multiplying by the target scale maximum — is used by World Education Services (WES), NACES member organizations, and most international universities. Our converter applies this formula with up to four decimal places of precision.
Who Needs a GPA Scale Converter
International Applicants
Applying to a US graduate school from a country that uses a 10.0 or 5.0 scale? You need to present your GPA on a 4.0 scale — the format most North American institutions use.
Transfer Students
Moving between universities or between countries mid-degree often means your transcript uses a different scale than the receiving institution. Convert before submitting.
Credential Evaluation
WES, NACES, and similar agencies convert international transcripts proportionally. This tool uses the same formula so you can preview your evaluated GPA before submission.
Scholarship Forms
Many scholarship applications ask for a GPA on a specific scale. If your transcript shows a 7.8/10, convert it to 3.12/4.0 for forms that only accept the 4-point format.

How the Conversion Formula Works
The universal proportional formula converts any GPA to any target scale by preserving the percentage of the maximum score achieved:
The mental check: your converted GPA should represent the same percentage of the new scale maximum as your original GPA is of your old scale maximum. If your GPA is 80% of your current scale, the converted value should be 80% of the target scale.
