CGPA Calculator for Ghana
Calculate your CGPA using Ghana's 4.0 grading system (University of Ghana) or CWA (KNUST). Credit-weighted as used by UG, UCC, KNUST and other Ghanaian universities.
1) GPA/CGPA on 4.0 scale
Many universities use letter grades mapped to grade points, weighted by course credits ("course credits" or "credit hours"). UG defines grade points = credits × grade point; CGPA = total grade points ÷ total credits; FGPA = CGPA at end of programme.
2) CWA (Cumulative Weighted Average)
KNUST emphasizes CWA: percentage marks × credits = Weighted Marks; CWA = sum of weighted marks ÷ sum of credits.
- Pass mark: UG: A–D pass (D = 50–54). KNUST: minimum CWA 45.00 for graduation (some programmes 50%).
- Rounding: Typically 2 decimal places on transcripts; institution-specific.
A) GPA/CGPA (University of Ghana)
- Grades: A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, E, F with mark bands.
- Grade points: A=4.0, B+=3.5, B=3.0, C+=2.5, C=2.0, D+=1.5, D=1.0, E=0.5, F=0.
- Grade points earned = course credits × grade point.
- CGPA = total grade points ÷ total credits. FGPA = CGPA at end of programme.
B) CWA (KNUST)
- Marks in percentages (70% exam, 30% continuous assessment).
- Weighted Marks = Mark × Credit per course.
- CWA = Σ( Mark × Credit ) ÷ Σ(Credit).

- GPA: Grade Point Average for a period/semester.
- CGPA: Cumulative to a point in time (UG: total GP ÷ total credits).
- FGPA: Final GPA at end of programme (UG).
- CWA: Cumulative Weighted Average (KNUST)—percentage-based.
University of Ghana (UG)
Scale: 4.0 GPA/CGPA
Letter grades mapped to grade points; CGPA = total grade points ÷ total credits; FGPA and degree classification by FGPA ranges.
University of Cape Coast (UCC)
Scale: CGPA-based
Degree classification using CGPA bands (e.g., First Class 3.6–4.0).
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
Scale: CWA
Cumulative Weighted Average from percentage marks; 70% exam / 30% continuous assessment; minimum CWA for graduation.
University of Education, Winneba (UEW)
Scale: GPA/CGPA
CGPA progression threshold; repeated courses affect GPA computations.
Ashesi University
Scale: GPA/CGPA
GPA/CGPA affects honours at graduation.
UBIDS
Scale: GPA (trimester)
TGP = grade point × credit unit; GPA computed from totals.
No single universal conversion. Institutions use degree class equivalency and/or 4-point GPA thresholds. Keep your university's grading policy and submit with applications. Credential evaluation may be required for some destinations.
