GPA Calculator for Qatar
Calculate your GPA using Qatar University's 4.0 grading scale (0.5 intervals). Credit Hours weighting, letter grades A–F, and graduation honors for QU, UDST, Texas A&M Qatar and other Qatari universities.
Qatar's higher education hosts Qatar University (QU) as the national standard, plus Education City branch campuses (Georgetown, Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon) that follow their home campus rules. QU uses a strict US-style GPA system with a key difference: 0.5 intervals for plus grades (B+=3.5, C+=2.5, D+=1.5) instead of the US 0.3 intervals.
- Letter Grades: A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, F, FA.
- Credit Hours (CH): Standard unit of study. Most courses are 3 credits.
- Pass Threshold: D (1.0) for undergraduates; C (2.0) or C+ for graduates.
- Transcript Codes: I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), FA (Failure for Absence—0 points).
- Rounding: GPA rounded to 2 decimal places.
- Convert Letter Grade to Grade Points: Use the university table (e.g., A=4.0, C+=2.5 at QU).
- Calculate Quality Points (per course): Grade Points × Credit Hours. Example: A (4.0) in 3 credits = 12.0 Quality Points.
- Sum the Totals: Add all Quality Points and all Attempted Credit Hours. Failed courses (F, FA) count as Attempted credits (denominator) but give 0 points (numerator).
- Divide: GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours.

If you retake a course (usually allowed if the previous grade was D+ or lower, or F), the new grade replaces the old grade in the GPA calculation. The old grade remains visible on the transcript but is excluded from the average.
Attendance is strictly enforced. Missing more than 25% of classes results in "FA", which calculates exactly like an F (0.00 points).
| University | System | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Qatar University (QU) | 4.0 (0.5 intervals) | National standard. B+=3.5, C+=2.5, D+=1.5. Pass: D (1.0). |
| University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) | 4.0 | Letter grades A+ to F. A+ = 4.0. |
| Texas A&M University at Qatar | US 4.0 | Standard US scale. No minus grades (A, B, C, D, F only). |
| Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar | Pass/Fail | Pre-med: Pass/Fail. Medical years: Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail. |
Degrees from Education City (Texas A&M, Georgetown) are identical to US degrees—no conversion needed. Qatar University: direct mapping. A 3.0 GPA at QU = 3.0 in the US.
GPA 3.60–4.00 ≈ First Class. GPA 3.00–3.59 ≈ Upper Second (2:1). GPA 2.50–2.99 ≈ Lower Second (2:2).
