Bulgarian Grade Calculator (2-6)

Calculate your Bulgarian sreden uspeh using the national 2-6 scale and ECTS credits. Coursework pass mark is 3.00. Final diploma grade is based on a 50/50 split between coursework average and state exam or thesis grade.

Grading System Overview (Bulgaria)
National 2-6 scale with ECTS-weighted averages

Bulgarian higher education uses a nationally standardized 2 to 6 numeric scale. Coursework pass mark is 3.00, and credits follow the ECTS framework.

  • Direction: Higher is better.
  • Credits: Krediti (ECTS credits), usually 30 per semester.
  • Weighted average: Sreden uspeh = Sum(grade x credits) / Sum(credits).
  • Final diploma formula: 50% coursework average + 50% state exam or thesis.

For cross-system comparisons, see ECTS tools and our GPA interpretation guide.

How We Calculate Results
Coursework average and final diploma output
Coursework Average = Sum(Grade x ECTS) / Total ECTS

Failed grades (2.00) earn zero credits. After a successful resit, the new passing grade is used in the weighted average calculation.

Final Diploma Grade = (Coursework Average + State Exam or Thesis Grade) / 2

Variations by University
National standard with limited implementation differences

Bulgarian law standardizes the 2-6 scale and diploma formula nationally. Universities mainly differ in procedural details, not in grading scale fundamentals.

  • Sofia University - standard 2-6 scale.
  • UNWE - standard 2-6 scale with ECTS weighting.
  • Technical University of Sofia - standard 2-6 scale.
  • Plovdiv University - explicitly states 50/50 diploma formula compliance.
  • National Academy of Music - 2-6 scale and statutory graduation formula.
