Lithuanian Grade Calculator (1–10)
Calculate your weighted average (Svertinis Vidurkis) using Lithuania's 10-point national grading scale. Higher is better: 10 (Puikiai) is Excellent, 5 is the minimum pass (Silpnai). Fully ECTS-weighted as used at Lithuanian universities.
Lithuanian higher education is fully integrated into the Bologna Process and follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Since 1993, Lithuania has used a standardized 10-point numerical scale (1.0–10.0) for all university-level assessments.
- Pass mark: Grade 5/10 (Silpnai – Sufficient) is the absolute minimum to earn credits.
- Credits (Kreditai): Directly equivalent to ECTS. One academic year = 60 ECTS (approx. 1600 hours of student workload).
- Assessment: Course grades are typically a Cumulative Grade (Kaupiamasis balas): Midterms (20–40%), Assignments/Projects (20–30%), Final Examination (40–50%).
- Svertinis Vidurkis: The weighted average (GPA), calculated using ECTS as weights.
- Akademinė Skola: Academic debt — a failed course that must be repeated.
- Išlaikyta: Pass/Fail option for some non-core credits (e.g. Physical Education); these grant credits but are excluded from the numerical average.
Most universities use a weighted formula to determine the final 1–10 grade for a module (midterms, assignments, final exam). The Svertinis Vidurkis (Weighted Average) is then calculated by multiplying each grade by its ECTS credits, summing, and dividing by total credits attempted.
Only successfully passed courses (5–10) are included in the final graduation average. Grades 1–4 (Nepatenkinamai) are fails and do not grant credits; they result in academic debt until cleared.
Special rules:
- Minimum pass: 5.0 is the absolute minimum to earn credits.
- Incomplete/Absent: Without a valid reason, a student receives 1 or "Not Passed."
| Mark | Lithuanian Descriptor | English Meaning | ECTS Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Puikiai | Excellent | A |
| 9 | Labai gerai | Very Good | B |
| 8 | Gerai | Good | C |
| 7 | Pakankamai gerai | Highly Satisfactory | D |
| 6 | Patenkinamai | Satisfactory | D |
| 5 | Silpnai | Sufficient (Pass) | E |
| 1–4 | Nepatenkinamai | Insufficient (Fail) | F / FX |
| Lithuania Mark | US Equivalent | US Grade Point (4.0) |
|---|---|---|
| 9 – 10 | A | 4.0 |
| 8 | B | 3.0 |
| 7 | C | 2.0 |
| 5 – 6 | D | 1.0 |
| Below 5 | F | 0.0 |
A Lithuanian 9 is highly competitive (often viewed as an A in the US). A 10 is rare and indicates top-tier performance. For UK: 8.0 average ≈ 2:1, 9.0+ ≈ 1st Class.
| Course | ECTS Credits | Grade (/10) | Weighted Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Algorithms & Data Structures | 6 | 9 | 54 |

| TOTAL | 30 | 246 | |
Final GPA (Svertinis Vidurkis) = 246 ÷ 30 = 8.20
Outcome: Gerai (Good) performance.
- Svertinis Vidurkis (Weighted Average): The primary indicator of academic achievement.
- Excellent Level: A weighted average with no academic debts.
- Typical Level: A weighted average in the satisfactory range.
- Cum Laude: Awarded to students with exceptional averages and an excellent final thesis defense.
- Diploma Supplement: An English-Lithuanian document detailing ECTS credits and national grades, required for all graduates.
The 10-point scale is the national standard mandated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.
