CGPA Calculator for Chad
Calculate your Moyenne du Semestre (MGS) using Chad's 0–20 scale. LMD framework with credit-weighted averages, compensation rules, and Mention system (Très Bien, Bien, Assez Bien, Passable) as used by Université de N'Djaména, URFT, Abéché, Moundou and other Chadian universities.
In the Republic of Chad, higher education is unified under the LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorat) framework, harmonized with other Francophone African nations via CAMES (African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education). The system emphasizes a 20-point scale and credit-based progression.
Assessment is a blend of continuous monitoring (Contrôle Continu) and terminal examinations (Examen Final). Courses are called Unités d'Enseignement (UE); each UE is divided into Éléments Constitutifs (EC). Transcripts display numerical marks (out of 20), credits earned, and the corresponding Mention (distinction). They usually show the Moyenne du Semestre (MGS) and the Moyenne Générale Annuelle (MGA). Pass mark: 10 / 20. Resits: Session de Rattrapage, held after the normal session. Rounding: usually two decimal places; some faculties round to the nearest 0.5.
| Main Grading Approach | 20-Point Scale (Weighted numerical average) |
| Typical Grading Scale | 0.00 – 20.00 |
| Local Credit Term | Crédits (equivalent to ECTS) |
| Credit-Weighted? | Yes. Results are weighted by credit value / coefficient. |
| Pass Mark | 10 / 20 (typical threshold for validation) |
| Resits / Retakes | Session de Rattrapage (held after the normal session) |
| Rounding Rules | Usually to two decimal places; rounding to nearest 0.5 is common in some faculties. |
- Individual subject grade (Note de l'EC): A student's grade for a subject usually combines Contrôle Continu (CC) and the Examen Final. Weights may vary between 30/70 and 50/50 depending on the faculty.
- Unit average (Moyenne de l'UE): If a UE consists of multiple subjects, the average is calculated using their respective coefficients:
Moyenne UE = Σ(Note EC × Coef EC) / Σ(Coef EC) - Semester average (Moyenne Semestrielle): The semester result is the weighted average of all UEs by credits:
Moyenne Semestrielle = Σ(Moyenne UE × Crédits UE) / Σ(Crédits UE) - Compensation: If a student's semester average is ≥ 10/20, they can "validate by compensation" even if one UE is below 10, provided it is not below the floor mark (often 7/20 or 8/20).
- Resits (Rattrapages): If you fail the first session, you only retake the subjects you did not validate. The higher mark is typically retained; some institutions cap resit marks at 10/20 for compensation purposes.

Chadian grading is rigorous. A 14/20 (Bien) is a significant achievement and often equates to a First Class or an "A" in softer grading systems.
Because Chad uses the LMD system, 1 credit in Chad is roughly equivalent to 1 ECTS credit. A 3-year Licence (180 credits) is generally accepted for Master's entry in Europe.
It is highly recommended to use a formal credential evaluation when applying to the US or Canada. A simple percentage conversion (e.g. 10/20 = 50%) is factually incorrect and would result in an "F" or "D" in North America.
