With over 50,000 students and a rigorous academic culture, Universidad Nacional's graduates are highly regarded by Colombian employers, government institutions, and international academic evaluators. Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, one of the oldest universities in the Americas, is particularly strong in law, political science, medicine, and international relations and is widely recognised regionally for the quality of its professional programmes. While many Latin American countries use a 0–10 or 0–100 grading scale, Colombia's 0–5 scale with a 3.0 passing threshold is distinctive and can cause confusion in international applications. Students applying to programmes that regularly receive Latin American applicants should note that a Colombian grade of 4.0 is not the same as a Mexican grade of 4.0 — which would be a fail in Mexico's 0–10 system where the passing threshold is typically 6.0 — nor the same as a Brazilian grade of 4.0, which would be below the typical 5.0 passing threshold in Brazil's 0–10 system. WES requires official transcripts sent directly from the Colombian institution — the official Colombian academic transcript (historia académica or certificado de notas) must be sent from the university's registrar or secretaría académica and cannot be submitted by the student directly.
